Daisy's Thoughts

This week we focused on work with the walker.  Yes, we continued to work on most of the skills listed to the left as many of these are presented opportunities each time we go public.

However, leading up to this week's focus were hours of preparation based upon Daisy's foundation skills.  Involved in walker work we must go back to the very beginning of sit, down, wait, heel, look at me, nice walk, ramp walking and distractions.  As you might recall, these skills were taught from the very beginning at 8 weeks of age.  In isolation, they were significant accomplishments for a small puppy.  Over the months these lessons were expanded to include other skills all in safe locations to ensure success.

The milestone this week was to take these skills collectively to accompany me in public using the walker.  With the walker and Daisy loaded in the truck, we drove to my favorite place, Dark Nectar Coffee https://www.dncsmorrobay.com/

where we have a great opportunity to work.  Daisy was perfect!  Even when Daisy saw people she knew, she never broke her focus upon me and the walker.  Once inside, I released her to interact.  Daisy is doing well in her training!  Amazing.

Daisy's Digs

A Puppies' Point of View

                                        By Daisy D.

Human Ray likes to go on walks each day.  I really think he NEEDS to go on these walks.  So I agree to go with him, you know, just so he won't get lost.  It's ok, he's old.

So one day we went the a place called "The Embarcadero" in Morro Bay.  I was really excited this day after Human Ray told Human Stacy what I was doing!  Human Ray and Human Stacy laughed because I was so excited I was doing my bunny hop just a bit!  That is where I jump off all four paws at the same time.  I first learned this bunny hop the day we found ants in our house.

Back to this day, after a few minutes Human Ray put me in his truck and we went for a drive.  I was so excited, I was breathing hard!  All the time I was listening, listening and listening!  "Where are they?", I said to myself.  I started to wonder if Human Ray had lost his way?  This is certainly not what I expected.  I didn't hear a thing!  There wasn't even a place called the "Dero", I was sad.  I thought it would be fun to listed to all the barks at the Dero.  I was even planning to join in!  So much for the Embarcadero.

Sometimes it's hard being a growing puppy.
