Daisy continues her foundation skills:

  • Sit

  • Down

  • Wait

  • Heel

  • Look at me

  • Doorbell

  • Shake

  • Leave it

  • Nice walk

  • Off

  • Come

  • Kennel

  • Stay

  • Backup

  • Open & Close Door

  • Confidence

  • Home

  • Off leash

  • NOW!

  • Ramp walking

  • Distractions

  • Walker

This week, again, because of the poor air quality Daisy and I were somewhat limited in the days we could actually go outside and train.

Much of this week's training took place at home with continued work with the walker including Nice Walk and NOW!  These sessions are going well.  Daisy is comfortable around the walker and along side as we move.

In previous weeks we walked numerous ramps gearing up for this training.  Daisy is familiar with ramps and, regardless of the angle of the ramp, maneuvers the straight, rounded and sharp turns.

With the addition of the walker in conjunction with ramps, Daisy started out a bit timid. However, over the days of practice Daisy has settled into her Nice Walk and Heel skills in the correct position next to the left side of the walker.

One semi-clear day, Daisy and I returned to the Morro Bay Embarcadero where Daisy took her first official Pier Photo (each of our service dogs had their photo taken here).  On the same day Daisy toured downtown Morro Bay visiting stores, restaurants all while being perfectly behaved and adorable!

This week Daisy did visit Albertson's Grocery Store, Central Coast Music shop, Wells Fargo Bank, DNCS Coffee Shop, Spencer's Grocery Store and Pizza Port all in Morro Bay.  It seemed Daisy brought some sunshine to people during this pandemic and poor air quality.  She performed her skills flawlessly and was gracious in saying hello to those who asked.

One tool I use to control people, yes people, who want to dive in and pet Daisy has become very important.  When I see someone coming towards Daisy, I say, "Daisy, sit before you say hello" loud enough for the person to hear.  As expected, it stops people in their tracks. Then I release Daisy, and the person, so Daisy can approach the human.  Works everytime.

Daisy's Digs

A Puppies' Point of View

                                        By Daisy D.

I not sure if you noticed this trend.  Human Ray is slowly putting on me more and more and more things!  My body is becoming covered!  I'm not sure why he is doing this?  At first, he put the thing around my neck.  This was OK, he always said how good I looked!  Then he put this long thing, he called it a leash, and somehow made it part of the first thing around my neck.  I didn't like this at first but it taught me not to run, run, run!  I had to stay, stay, stay!  After that, human Ray made me wear this, what he called a vest, on my back.  BARK, it was so heavy!  Did human Ray forget I'm just a small puppy?  I said OK, because then I remembered he was pretty old.  One day he showed me a box that had at least a hundred of these "vests" in there!  As he took them out they kept getting bigger and bigger!  Like to fit a horse!  I think as I get bigger he will put each of these vests on me.  It will be really heavy with all of those vests on my back!

This week human Ray tied this thing around my neck right on top of the first thing.  Human Stacy said, "Daisy, you are so cute!" I thought I was cute already before the thing he tied on my neck.

It's hard being a growing puppy!
