Daisy's Thoughts
Another big week for Daisy! We continue to work on her fundamental skills, as we do each week, but we're still bringing in new skills and combinations of skills.

"NOW!" is practiced each day, however, I have not combined it with walking along side the walker in a real-life situation. For example, this week we worked at Albertsons, our local grocery store, where it was the first time we combined all but one of her walking with a walker skills in an actual store.
As you watch the video, notice Daisy's position is perfect as we move through the store. Even more impressive is her work at each automatic sliding door where she hesitates blocking the door sensor until I am able to clear the door with the walker. Daisy can either sit or stand to block the door sensor. Although we've worked on this specific skill before, this was the first time we used it with the walker in real time.

My goal this coming week is to include "NOW!" during our time working in public. I'm not expecting perfection, but I think she will be ready to try.

Each day Daisy has the opportunity to watch her client on video. My goal here is to have Daisy see and hear her client to become so used to her upcoming environment that her transition will be less challenging.

Also, Daisy continues to automatically settle at my feet when I sit. This is a vital skill she will need working with her client. When she starts working, Daisy will be expected to remain with her client at all times except when going out to do her business, eating and possibly select other times. Overall, Daisy will be with her client sitting next to her or settling at her feet. For the first 4 to 6 months, Daisy will be on a leash in the house to ensure that she continues this close proximity as she settles into her new environment.

Daisy's Digs
A Puppies' Point of View
By Daisy D.

Being a big girl puppy is so much fun! I am still helping human Ray around the house. He also needs me when he goes to the store to bring things home. He calls it shopping. I call it having fun watching people! I did have a questions about stores. I asked human Ray why I didn't see other dogs like me in these stores? Human Ray explained to me that because I have a special yellow vest that I am allowed into stores, restaurants and any other place my human wants to go. Wow! That's pretty cool! Human Ray told me that I'm special. And that all the things I'm learning, which is pretty fun, will help me when I go to work.

This week human Ray and my favorite person who lives across the street, Sabrina, took me to do more shopping. Sabrina was taking pictures while I helped old human Ray get around the store. It was fun! Once in a while I'd look back at Sabrina and give her a little smile. She is really nice but doesn't need my help. She is good at taking pictures.

I remember when I was a little puppy human Ray and Stacy started taking me to the beach. At first I was a bit scared of the big water. But now, I like getting my paws wet and walking the trails and stairs. We also jump on big rocks and benches. Well now I'm getting really good at this! Each time we go I get to do something a little harder, like jumping rock to rock, or jumping up on the big log. Today I asked human Ray why we do this each week? He looked at me and smiled then said, "Wait until next week and you'll better understand why we do all of these things."

I guess I'll have to wait. But either way, it's always a new challenge!

You know, it's fun being a big girl puppy!
